Mr Opperman has 17 years post qualification experience and is a partner in the Litigation unit of the Commercial, Property & Litigation Department of Adams & Adams. He practises from the firm’s Pretoria office in Gauteng, South Africa. Mr Opperman advises clients on specialized recoveries (most of his clients in this regard are banks), Commercial Litigation, Construction Law (he advises developers and employers). He also has a special interest and advises clients on Insolvency and Company Law. He has obtained an additional qualification in Advanced Insolvency Litigation (in addition to his Master’s degree in Banking Law) and has acted for clients in several multi million rand construction arbitrations since 2012 to date. He was involved in the successful opposition of a Business Rescue application by a local hardware chain. He is on the panel of three of the major banks’ Commercial Recoveries Departments. Under his leadership his team has successfully secured the rights of, and recovered substantial sums due to his clients. He has built strong relationships with clients and colleagues and is respected amongst his peers. He often contributes, via short articles, to a group which he created on “linked in” known as the “Banking, Construction and Insolvency Law Group” (leander-opperman-4966727b). He has successfully completed insolvency related litigation for a well known German Flooring Company. He has assisted an Italian company (which distributes packaging machinery locally) and also advised a Chinese manufacturer of transformers on a claim by a well known mining house in South Africa involving a substantial amount. He previously served as the treasurer of the Pretoria Attorneys’ Association, is a member of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces, spends much time mentoring junior attorneys and has a national practice and often litigates in the other divisions of the South Africa High Court.
