Adams & Adams were present at the Registry when it opened its doors to the public for the first filings on 5 July. We lodged in excess of 600 applications that day.

More recently the first edition of the Industrial Property Bulletin was published. Most of the trade mark applications lodged up to the end of December 1999 were included in the Bulletin. The Code allows for a 60 day opposition term, which will expire on 7 July 2000. We envisage a fair number of problems insofar as oppositions are concerned, due largely to the fact that the applicant’s address for service does not appear with the rest of the trade mark details in the publication notice. We are already aware of potential opponents notifying applicants direct to give notice of their intention to oppose.

In addition, goods and services have not been included in the publication notices. The Mozambiquen Code appears to make provision for a form of examination following expiry of the opposition term and we shall be monitoring and reporting these developments after 5 July 2000.
