3/08/2007

Marilyn Krige, partner at Adams & Adams, leading attorney in intellectual property law, is a top women business achiever.

She was awarded the Business Women's Association of South Africa's Business Achiever's Award for 2007 in the professional category last night. It was the first time ever that his award was made in this category.

The awards in the categories start-up, entrepreneur, corporate and professional - recognise women in top level positions who are considered as role models and who are seen to be actively making a difference in their corporations. The award is also of great significance as South Africa celebrates women's month in August.

Krige was awarded for her contribution to the growth of the firm and her position as a role model in industry to professional women, as a mentor to what they can achieve, whilst balancing this with family life and contributions to social development.

Krige says the awards focus on the need to constantly increase the levels of professional service in South Africa.

"If my winning this award would encourage others to do any job professionally and with passion, I am delighted to carry that torch. I am humbled by the honour of receiving this award."

The Businesswoman of the Year Award has been honouring South Africa's outstanding businesswomen since 1980. It has grown in stature over the last 26 years, to become the premier event of its kind in the country and a notable part of the South African business calendar.

The award recognises the success of women leaders in business, thereby creating a cadre of female role models whose achievements inspire other women to raise their sights and reach their goals. It also creates a mechanism for applauding and celebrating women's contribution to the economy.

Previous winners include Jane Raphaely, Managing Director of Jane Raphaely and Associates, Carol Scott, Managing Director of Imperial Car Rental, Marina Maponya, Director Maponya of the Group of Companies, Pam Golding, Chairman of Pam Golding Properties, maria Ramos, Chief Executive of Transnet, Futhi Mtoba, Chairman of Deloitte and Monhla Hlahla, Managing Director of the Airports Company of South Africa.
