Domain name registration .eu
30/12/2002
In many cases, this can act as a blocking mechanism to stop others from registering your well-known trade marks and trading styles as domain names in those countries. Of interest to those of you doing business in Europe is the possibility that shortly a country code top level domain name (ccTLD) in the form of .eu will become available. There are many name registration providers who are offering pre-registration under the top level domain name .eu. Should you wish to register in .eu once established, registration with one of the registration providers could afford you a good chance of obtaining the registration before anyone else. There is, of course, no guarantee that you will secure your preferred domain name in the ccTLD .eu. In the event that you require some assistance in this regard, please contact us to discuss the matter.
The possibility also exists of registering a domain name with the ending eu.com by a company called Centralnic which is based in the USA. This is, however, not an official top level domain and it will be secure for only as long as Centralnic continues in business. Whether or not this alternative registration is viable, will depend on what you believe will happen to the registration and formation of the ccTLD .eu. In the event that you require any further assistance or advice in this regard, we suggest that you contact us to discuss the matter.

Are you ready for the Consumer Protection Act?
The Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (the CPA) is coming into force on 31 March 2011. It will have a significant effect on the supply of goods and services. The act will also regulate the relationship between suppliers and consumers in detail.
One of the most controversial provisions of the CPA relates to the liability of suppliers. If someone supplies goods, and those goods cause harm to the consumer, the supplier will be liable for the harm. This will be the case even if the supplier was not negligent. Further, all parties in the supply chain can be held liable by the consumer. This includes the manufacturer, the wholesaler and the business that sells the goods to the public. |
