Employees turned up en masse to assist learners at the Vuka’uzenzele Primary School in Mamelodi, Tshwane, in celebration of International Literacy Day on 8 September.
The Adams & Adams team was assisted by learners from the school’s twin school, Tyger Valley College in Silver Lakes.
Apart from volunteer reading, the team assisted grade 7 learners with basic computer training. The school has incorporated computer literacy as part of its curriculum.
Magda Grobler, the firm’s training coordinator has compiled training manuals which will be used as reference material for teachers during training. She is also voluntarily training the school’s two computer literate teachers in Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Once trained, they will continue with learner training.
The Marketing Manager says the firm has adopted Vuka’uzenzele Primary School as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
“We have donated the security system, including security doors and window burglar bars for the computer room and library, as well as 25 personal computers. This ensured continued computer literacy training and reading.”
School Principal Jukie Mkhatshwa said this donation ensured computer literacy for many a young learner
“Without this assistance the learners would have missed the opportunity of tuition in an essential commodity of today’s society.”
