Adams & Adams’ consultant scoops CEO Magazine award

Esmé du Plessis, Senior Consultant at leading law firm Adams & Adams is the winner in the law section of CEO Magazine’s awards for South Africa’s most influential women in business and government for 2008/9.
Professor du Plessis, the first female patent attorney in South Africa and the first female partner at the firm, specialises in patents, copyright, industrial designs, intellectual property agreements and international treaties on intellectual property.
She is vice-chairperson of the Statutory Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property, the chairperson of the Law Society of South Africa’s standing committee on intellectual property and a member of the Black Lawyers Association and the Pretoria Attorneys’ Association.
CEO Magazine, a business management magazine, focuses on organisational excellence across all sectors. It stimulates thinking and shifts paradigms, assisting others to benchmark against similar players. It is a total resource from which to base the search for excellence in the business world.

McDonalds refused leave to appeal by Supreme Court of Appeal
In an order dated 28 January 2008, the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa has dismissed (with costs) an application by McDonalds International Property Co. Limited for leave to appeal against a decision of the Full Bench of the Transvaal Provincial Division of the High Court upholding an earlier decision of the Registrar of Trade Marks refusing cancellation of the McBiscuit trade mark registration on the basis of several registrations for Mc and Mac trade marks. |
