Adams & Adams launches new specialised anti-counterfeiting team

Adams & Adams is pleased to announce the launch of a new team specialising in anti-counterfeiting matters.

While Adams & Adams has, since the inception of the Counterfeit Goods Act, been a leading South Africa law firm in the fight against counterfeit goods and piracy, we realised towards the end of 2009 that a fresh approach was required in this field. Trade mark proprietors are under ever increasing pressure to protect their trade marks in expanding markets and online, but with limited resources.

To meet our clients’ needs we have created a specialist team who, due to a revised structure, specialised software and their wealth of experience, are ideally positioned to deliver world-class anti-counterfeiting services at competitive rates.

The new team is being headed up by two partners, Steven Yeates and Lucy Signorelli. Between them, they have almost twenty years of litigation experience, sixteen years of which include anti-counterfeiting. Steven and Lucy are assisted by two qualified attorneys, Godfrey Budeli and Muhammad Moolla, respectively a senior associate and associate, as well as a team of paralegals and candidate attorneys. The members of the team all have extensive anti-counterfeiting experience.

The streamlined structure will allow the team to focus entirely on anti-counterfeiting operations, resulting in the establishment of a strong, efficient, knowledgeable and skilled task force.

By virtue of the extensive litigation experience of the attorneys involved, all formal documents, including particulars of claim, affidavits and other court processes will continue to be drafted in-house. This will result in continued quality control and a reduction in disbursements – savings which will be passed on to our clients.

With the advent of the new team, Adams & Adams has introduced a new commoditised cost structure relating to anti-counterfeit goods matter in South Africa, as well as additional specialist services including internet searches and enforcement programmes.
