Adams & Adams appoints new chief operating officer
Adams & Adams has appointed Stuart Boyd as chief operating officer.

Boyd, who is a chartered accountant, has consulted to the office of the Auditor General since 2007, implementing financial management improvements.

Before that he was with Nedbank where he held various executive positions, including a secondment at Swisscard, a joint venture between American Express and Credit Suisse, in Switzerland.

Adams & Adams appoints five new partners
Adams & Adams has appointed five new partners, Ferdi Myburg, Dale Healy, Mandy Gordon, James Davies and Kgabo Serokolo.

Myburg joined the firm in 1986 in the Trade Mark Department, where he is responsible for the maintenance of trade marks and oversees the trade mark renewal section. He specialises in the post-registration of trade marks such as renewals and assignments. He holds a BLC LLB degree.

Adams & Adams scores a level five B-BBEE status
Adams & Adams has been verified as a level five broad-based black economic empowerment company by the authoritative Empowerdex Trust.

The verification deems Adams & Adams as a generic enterprise with a B-BBEE procurement recognition of 80%. It is deemed 2.2% black-owned and 1.1% owned by black women.

Winding up when it’s over
A company formed by partners may be wound up under the “just and equitable” provision, where circumstances which would justify dissolution of a partnership exist.

This is what the Supreme Court of Appeal held in the matter of Apco Africa v Apco Worldwide in a judgement delivered on 29 May 2008 under case number 372/2007.
