Employer Awards 2008

In the 2005, 2006 & 2008 year, Magnet Communications, a Swedish-based company, once again undertook a survey on university campuses around the country in conjunction with the South African Graduate Recruiters Association (SAGRA). Their aim was to identify, in the views of students, their employers of choice in South Africa. This survey is now an annual event and is expanding year on year. Magnet's results are representative of all universities in South Africa and over 3,000 students are canvassed in the law survey and once again, Adams & Adams has been identified as "the ideal legal employer" in the legal category in South Africa.

The consecutive awards can only be attributable to the dedicated approach by the firm in actively enhancing the Adams & Adams' brand on many of the country's campuses. We have also ensured that partners and staff involved in recruitment can relate to the students and provide an honest reflection of their future careers.

As part of this focused approach, we have successfully implemented or expanded on the following :

• our highly rated annual vacation programme for third and fourth-year LLB students;
• a candidate attorney training programme which we believe to be one of the best in the country - equipping candidate attorneys to become well-balanced, practical lawyers;
• a bursary and shadow programme;
• support of career exhibitions at universities;
• active recruiting on university campuses and interviewing as many candidates as possible, at no cost to the applicants. During October 2007 our staff partners interviewed more than 100 top applicants, from a selection of over 600 CVs received, at 9 universities around the country - for articled clerk positions in January 2009;
• sponsorship of magazines, breakfasts, golf days, dinners etc. that the various law faculties are involved with;
• offering lectures at universities; and
• sponsoring annual prizes at 19 universities around the country.

The acknowledgment by the law students that Adams & Adams is recognised as a top employer is particularly gratifying and is indicative of how a positive outlook and focused effort breeds success. Our thanks and congratulations are due to all who have been involved.
