Marking of Goods

All goods should, in general, be marked with country of origin, as well as all cartons, cases, crates and packages.

Foreign canned goods imported into the Ivory Coast must have stamped or indelibly printed on the label an indication of the country of origin and an indication of the date of production.

The Ivorian authorities have implemented the following regulations on packaged food preparations:-

1. For packaged food imported or made in the Ivory Coast, the container must display the following information in perfect legible Latin letters of at least 3mm high:

(i) Country of origin
(ii) Non-coded date of manufacture (day, month and year separated by a hyphen).
(iii) Date limit for use of the product, preceded by ‘to be used before’.

2. The label should be in French or should have a translation in the language, and must bear the following:-

(i) Name of the product
(ii) Net content in weight or volume in metric measures
(iii) Name and address of the manufacturer, packer, exclusive distributor or importer of the packaged food preparation.
(iv) Complete list of the ingredients
(v) Each constituting element of any compound ingredient
(vi) Addition of water must be mentioned in the ingredients list, except when water is used in brine, syrup or broth.
